My name is Juani Ucero Martinez, I come from a family of Spanish immigrants who moved abroad during the Spanish dictature. As a result, I was born in France, and I grew up as a member of a community of "hispano-hablantes" who used to meet regularly to preserve their traditions, culture, and common language.
My father loved tango and flamenco, so these sounds came along with me throughout my childhood. I danced flamenco for years, and I got into tango as a result of being curious about its whimsical and painful stories. I must say that, being a Spanish teacher, I would always associate the "lunfardo" dialect to some of the words used by my parents and the people we used to get along with.
Nowadays, I've come to realize that those people who do not understand the story won't feel or interpret it when dancing; they won't identify with the protagonist and, as a consequence, their dance will end up being a set of movements that are neither emotionally nor musically connected.
This is the way my history was born, with the desire to share my emotions through my body by feeling each song as a hug full of listening and empathy; this is what I mean by saying "el sentir de las mujeres es como un tango".
I could keep talking about my lessons and the times I went to Buenos Aires, but for now, I do not want to take more time. I am looking forward to sharing with you my passion towards this world, from which I no longer desire to go away.
